How Did You Get Hired?

I was graduating from college with a business degree and wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do. I never thought about working in the construction industry until I saw Power Design's job listings posted on Monster. The office engineer position sounded really interesting to me, and I applied for the job. I'm so glad I did! Not only do I have a career path now, but I also have the opportunity to work for a professional, fast-growing company.

Career Highlights

  • Traveling to major cities in other parts of the country to visit my assigned jobsites.
  • Learning all about the building process and how the industry works from the project managers.
  • Attending project meetings with various levels of management - job start meetings, coordination meetings, etc.
  • Assisting project management on various projects, including procuring material for jobsites and tracking and managing contract changes. I'm getting valuable exposure to a wide range of construction types, sizes and customers.
  • Getting to work with people who have similar backgrounds and interests as myself.
  • Watching my projects progress from the ground floor to completion on the 52nd floor.

What’s Your Career Path?

Being an office engineer is a great introduction into Power Design's management track. I'm gravitating toward the project management trainee program in the next couple of years. But I could also choose to become a contract administrator. Just knowing there are several career paths is enough motivation to keep me working hard!
