Open any industry headline today, and you’ll see the same themes: the surge of AI and quantum computing, the demand for data centers, supply-chain pressure, unpredictable tariffs, and a nationwide shortage of skilled labor. While these challenges are reaching the news cycle, we have been preparing for them for years. Hear from our Chief Operating Officer, Joe Micallef, on how Power Design is staying ahead of the trends and ready to meet our customers where they are as the industry’s most trusted partner.
THE DATA CENTER BOOM:
AI and quantum computing are fueling what’s next in construction. Often in remote regions, they require immense labor and operate on strict schedules. Our deep labor pool and skilled tradespeople are at the ready to tackle these data centers.
CHAOS CONTROLLED:
Long before supply chain issues became a national headline, we made a defining decision: control what we can control. That philosophy led to the creation of the LINK — our 350,000-square-foot manufacturing, distribution, and prefab campus. Instead of waiting on long lead times, the LINK allows us to secure critical materials early, store them safely, and deliver them on our schedule. It’s where we hold two years’ worth of copper, stock the long-lead breakers other teams are still waiting on, and manufacture our own LFG switchgear, gear that’s already powering dozens of active projects.
PREFABRICATION PERFECTION:
Inside the LINK sits another advantage: a state-of-the-art prefabrication operation. Here, unit assemblies, electrical rooms, duct banks, and more are built in a controlled environment, quality-checked, packaged, and delivered directly to the site on an as-needed basis by our semi fleet transportation. Prefab isn’t new to the industry, but the scale and precision that we operate at is second to none.
A LABOR FORCE BUILT FOR THE FUTURE
Across the country, construction is short hundreds of thousands of skilled workers. We saw this challenge and took matters into our own hands. We have been investing in the next generation of talent for years. Our apprenticeship program is graduating its largest class ever, producing men and women who are passing their journeyman’s test before they even step onto the job. They join an already seasoned labor force, backed by our Special Operations squad — more than 350 elite, rapidly deployable experts who can support the toughest projects anywhere in the country. Together, these teams form one of the strongest labor pools in the industry, ready for the demands of data centers and beyond.
SETTING THE SAFETY STANDARD
Even with rapid growth, diversification, and evolving project types, safety remains our foundation. We recently achieved a 0.48 EMR, one of the lowest EMRs in the industry. Safety is part of our culture at Power Design, and our commitment to safety is a promise we make to every partner and every person on the jobsite.
FUTUREPROOFING REDEFINED
As our Chief Operating Officer Joe Micallef puts it, we aren’t just reacting to what’s happening in the market today. We’re looking years ahead, anticipating challenges before they arrive. The construction industry is always evolving quickly, and so are we.
