We are all in this together. Helping each other, and ensuring our families stay safe and healthy during this time are top priorities for us. As we continue to obey orders by the CDC to stay home and social distance, thoughts on ways we can help our communities keep rising. We’ve compiled a list of actions we can all take to help stop the spread.

  • 1) STAY HOME. Social distancing is saving lives. Need to go to the store? Most stores and restaurants offer delivery options. Delivery apps like Shipt and Instacart are still delivering to your door and eliminating all interactions with customers.

    2) SUPPORT LOCAL. Support local businesses like restaurants, bars and cafes in your area. Many restaurants are still up and running, offering delivery and pick-up options only. Check out this article on ways to help your local businesses, or consider donating to a business fundraiser!

  • 3) PURCHASE GIFT CARDS. Buying gift cards or prepay services can help smaller businesses that are in trouble in the wake of Corona. Small business lender, Kabbage, created a platform that allows consumers to buy gift cards ranging from $25 – $500. In turn, small businesses receive the revenue. Check out the article here.

    4) DONATE. If you can, donating to relief organizations such as Relief International can help procure medical supplies for those who need it most; healthcare workers around the world who are on the front lines facing and fighting the virus every day.

    5) SUPPORT OUR HEROES. First responders and healthcare workers are working long shifts and overtime to help keep us safe, and often forget or don’t have time to grab lunch and dinner. Providing meals for them is one of the easiest ways to help keep them going and show your appreciation.

    6) SUPPORT CHILDREN. Consider donating to organizations like No Kids Hungry (they feed children in need due to school closures) or UNICEF (they’re donating hygiene and medical kits to schools). Ronald McDonald Houses are all over the country and offer housing and meals for families who have children receiving treatment at a local hospital.

    7) GIVE BLOOD.The American Red Cross has stated that there’s a serious blood shortage because of the outbreak. One donation of blood can save up to 3 lives. Find a drive near you.

    8) VOLUNTEER. If you’re look for ways to safely get out there and provide hands-on (sanitized) help, check out VolunteerMatch. This website will help you locate opportunities in your area where you can dedicate some much-needed time and help.

    9) UNDERSTAND HOW IT SPREADS. According to FrederickHealth.org, COVID-19 is thought to spread from person-to-person, between those who are within about 6 feet of one another. The virus can spread through respiratory droplets produced through coughs or sneezes, and these droplets can land in the mouths or noses of nearby people. The CDC also says these droplets can possibly be inhaled directly into the lungs.

    10) WASH YOUR HANDS AND DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place, after using the bathroom, before and after eating, after handling pets, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Remember: wet, lather, scrub, rinse, and dry.
