    About the Position

Power Design is looking for an HVAC expert who wants to take their field experience and use it to develop people — not just projects. In this role, you’ll lead hands-on technical training in our state-of-the-art training facilities, mentor apprentices, and support the technical growth of our field and office employees across the HVAC/mechanical scopes. You will also conduct technical skill evaluations for new hires and internal promotions, helping ensure that our field talent is placed confidently and successfully on projects.

As a Technical HVAC Instructor, you will play a key role in strengthening field capability, ensuring consistent installation quality, and shaping the next generation of HVAC/mechanical professionals at Power Design.

If you love the mechanical trade, enjoy teaching others, and want a role where you can directly influence careers and workforce development—this is your next move.

    • Conduct technical evaluations for new hires and internal promotion candidates to assess skill level and field readiness.
    • Mentor apprentices throughout their development, including classroom instruction, lab-based learning, and coaching.
    • Design, develop, and maintain training content, lesson plans, job aids, and assessments that align with project requirements and evolving mechanical codes.
    • Partner with subject matter experts and field leaders to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and drive continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate with apprenticeship partners and industry organizations (e.g., IMC, ABC, NCCER chapters, or similar mechanical trade programs).
    • Represent Power Design in the community by supporting trade advocacy, recruiting, and workforce development initiatives.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

    Here’s What We’re Looking For

    • 5+ years of hands-on experience working in commercial HVAC/mechanical construction (multifamily/high-rise strongly preferred).
    • Well-rounded mechanical system installation and start up/comissioning experience, including but not limited to ductwork, refrigeration, hydronics, piping, and a variety of HVAC systems such as VRV/VRF, DX Split, Chilled Water, and Water Source Heat Pump systems.
    • Supervisory experience in managing and mentoring crews preferred
    • Knowledge of plumbing systems and installation practices is a plus.
    • Passion for teaching and the ability to break down complex technical concepts into practical, clear instruction.
    • Strong communication and facilitation skills; comfortable speaking to groups and coaching one-on-one.
    • Excellent organization and planning abilities with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
    • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Experience training others (classroom or hands-on) preferred, but not required.
    • Ability to occasionally adjust work hours to support training needs.
