Every generation has the responsibility to prepare the next one. In construction, that means showing young people not just what's possible, but giving them the opportunity to experience it for themselves.
That's the idea behind Power Youth, a weeklong program designed to introduce high school students to careers in the skilled trades through hands-on learning, real-world experiences and direct access to the professionals building them.
Construction isn't just something students see from the outside. At Power Youth, they get to step onto the jobsite, pick up the tools and discover what it's actually like to build something with their own hands.
From reading blueprints and wiring circuits to assembling piping systems and learning from experienced pros, every day offered a new opportunity to explore the trades. Check out the video below to get a glimpse of the action!
What began as a program for the children and relatives of Power Design team members has continued to grow. Today, Power Youth welcomes participants from our industry partners and community organizations like First Tee and Junior Achievement, giving even more students the opportunity to explore careers in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing construction.
Since launching in 2022, Power Youth has welcomed 77 students into the program. Even more rewarding, seven participants have already returned to Power Design as apprentices – turning a week of exploration into the start of a career.
As demand for skilled professionals continues to grow, creating opportunities like Power Youth is more important than ever. By connecting students with meaningful, hands-on experiences early, we're helping build a stronger workforce and inspiring the next generation of electricians, plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and construction leaders.
