People First: A New Standard for Wellness in Construction đŸ’Ș

Construction has always been built on grit, long days, early mornings, and pushing through.

Power Design has never been interested in doing things the way they’ve always been done, and our approach to wellness is no exception. For over a decade, we’ve invested in building a culture where our team can train, compete, and grow together,  whether they’re on the GRID or out bringing buildings to life in the field.

From stretch routines and safety-driven training on jobsites to on-campus fitness and wellness resources, our focus has always been on supporting the whole person  â€“  an evolution led by our Wellness Manager, Shelly Scamardo, who took a leap from Tampa General Hospital ten years ago after seeing the vision firsthand.

Fitness and wellness have always been my passion; I've been teaching it since I was 18. At Power Design, I've had the opportunity to watch that passion grow into something much bigger. What excites me the most isn't just how far we've come as a company, but how we're helping push the entire industry forward. We're showing that taking care of your people isn't a perk - it's essential to how they perform, how they feel, and how long they can do what they love.

    Shelly Scamardo | Wellness Manager

Backed by leadership that believes in doing things differently, that vision has continued to grow. Now, we’re taking it even further with the expansion of our wellness space and the addition of a dedicated recovery center designed to support the whole person – physically, mentally, and long-term. Because high performance doesn’t just come from pushing harder, it comes from recovering smarter.

    Inside the New Space

One of the biggest barriers to wellness is access. So we removed it.

With more ways than ever to train, recover, and recharge – alongside ongoing resources like biometric screenings, mammograms, dermatology visits, and more – Power Design is making it easier for team members to prioritize their health, with no extra time, and no added hassle. Leaders are even empowered with monthly wellness budgets to invest directly in their teams, because taking care of people shouldn’t be an afterthought.

Check out some of the new features below!

    ❄ Cryotherapy

A first-of-its-kind offering in the area, this advanced cryotherapy chamber uses intelligent technology to safely deliver cold therapy in just 1–3 minutes.

Unlike traditional cold plunges, the system senses your skin temperature and adjusts in real time to maximize recovery while minimizing risk. It’s cleaner, more efficient, and designed to help reduce inflammation and support faster recovery.

Powered by technology originally developed for NASA, these programmable light beds offer targeted benefits through different wavelengths, including red and multi-spectrum light.

Whether it’s recovery, skin health, or overall wellness, sessions are quick (around 20 minutes) and easy for Power Design team members to fit into the workday.

    đŸ’†â€â™‚ïžMassage Pods

    Not your average massage chair.

These private, fully immersive pods use biometric tracking, including heart rate, HRV, and stress indicators, to customize each session in real time.

Set within calming, semi-private spaces, they’re designed to help team members fully disconnect and reset.

    🙆Barre and Heroboard Pilates

Power Design is one of the only companies in the country, and the first in Florida, to offer Heroboard Pilates.

With fewer than 20 certified instructors nationwide, this dynamic, balance-focused training method brings a completely new dimension to our group fitness offerings, and Shelly was one of the first ever certified!

    đŸšČ Cycling Studio

New locker rooms will feature saunas to support recovery, relaxation, overall wellness, and give team members another way to recharge during the day.

    đŸ“Č The Vitality App

Wellness doesn’t stop when you leave the space. Our new Vitality app allows team members to create personalized wellness journeys, set goals, and track progress while earning incentives for taking proactive steps toward their health - giving both our field and office teams the tools to stay consistent, no matter where the job takes them.

    The Thought Behind the Design

Behind the scenes, this space wasn’t designed to just look good – it was built to work on you.

Every detail was grounded in human-centered, research-backed design, rooted in environmental psychology and biophilic principles that influence how people feel, move, and recover. From the moment you walk in, the goal is simple: create an immediate shift.

The space intentionally moves away from the high-energy feel of the rest of campus. Instead, it leans into calming blues and greem, softened materials, and organic shapes that reduce stress and help the body relax before your brain even has to think about it.

    Angelica Maldonado | Interior Designer

Even elements that might seem subtle, like the removal of harsh contrasts, the use of deep blue tones instead of black, or the semi-private recovery areas, are rooted in psychology. It’s not just a wellness space, but an environment designed to support how people actually function.

    Bigger Than Just a Space

This isn’t only an upgrade, it’s a shift in how the construction industry thinks about its people. For too long, the expectation has been to push through, ignore the aches, skip the doctor, grab another energy drink, and keep going.

At Power Design, we’re changing that by investing in recovery, education, and accessibility to help build careers that last longer, feel better, and perform at a higher level.

The future of construction isn’t just about what we build, it’s about who we build it with and how we take care of them along the way.

    Power Design

Our mission is to be the most trusted partner. With passion and accountability, we will deliver unmatched performance and a PlusONE experience. At Power Design we build more than just buildings - we build relationships that last.
