At Power Design, we believe that supporting the next generation of tradespeople starts with the people closest to home: our own #PDIFamilies!
Today, we wrapped up another incredible week of our Power Youth program, where 17 students from across the country joined us in St. Petersburg for a hands-on look at what a future in the trades could look like. What made this group especially meaningful? Every student is related to a current Power Design team member.
Throughout the week, students rotated through hands-on learning sessions and real-world experiences designed to introduce them to the building blocks of the construction industry. They toured our CAMP facility to explore the basics of electrical and mechanical systems, learned how to read construction drawings using Fieldwire, practiced conduit bending, completed electrical rough-in activities, participated in a variety of safety training exercises, and so much more!
These lucky students didn’t just see what the trades are – they saw the pride and purpose that comes with being part of the Power Design team.
Now more than ever, the trades need passionate, skilled future leaders to carry the torch. With a nationwide shortage of tradespeople, programs like Power Youth are more than just a summer experience – they're a form of advocacy.
For students who may not see themselves on a traditional college path, an apprenticeship offers a powerful alternative: earn while you learn, build a meaningful career, and make an impact from day one.

My son, Reese, had the chance to experience firsthand the pride, purpose, and possibilities of a career in the trades. This week will leave a lasting positive impression on him. Power Design is not just talking about the future; they are investing in it. This program truly walks the walk when it comes to building the next generation of tradespeople!

I brought my daughter, Summer, just to show her what I do every day, but it really shaped things in a way I wasn't expecting. She absolutely loved it! She was calling family, talking about how cool it was, and now shes seriously thinking about getting into the trades. It's tough for young people to figure out what they want to do these days. College isn't for everyone, and the job market can be rough. This experience gave her the opportunity to see what else is possible.

As we continue building for the future, programs like Power Youth reflect our commitment to empowering the next generation, starting with our own extended Power Design family. We’re not just shaping careers, we’re shaping lives. And for many of our students this week, that journey started with a deeper appreciation for the work their family members do every day.
Here’s to the next generation of tradespeople, and to the Power Design families helping them thrive!
