Get the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below!
What does Power Design do?
Power Design is a national design-build contractor specializing in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and systems technologies. We work on some of the biggest and most exciting projects across the country—from luxury high-rise apartments and massive data centers to world-class sports stadiums, hotels, and resorts.
With projects in over 25 states across the nation, our apprentices get hands-on experience working on builds that shape skylines and communities. Unlike residential work, where you’re fixing systems on old houses, our job sites are clean, modern, and high-tech, giving you the chance to learn on some of the most advanced construction projects in the industry.
At Power Design, we’re more than just builders—we’re innovators, problem-solvers, and a team that’s redefining what’s possible in the trades. Whether you’re working on a high-rise in Miami, a resort in Las Vegas, or a stadium in Tennessee, every day is an opportunity to build something big!
What makes a Power Design apprenticeship different from other programs?
Our apprenticeship program is designed to give you real-world experience on large-scale, high-profile projects while providing top-tier training and mentorship.
With visits to our 57,000-square-foot training facility at our headquarters and live virtual classes, our apprentices get the best education and training from day one. Plus, our pay-for-performance model means your hard work translates directly into career growth and earning potential.
We’re known for our award-winning culture, where teamwork, appreciation, and career development come first. From industry-leading training to exciting rewards like vehicle giveaways, we invest in our people and their success. If you’re ready to start a career in the trades with a company that values your growth, Power Design is the place to be.
How much does a Power Design Apprenticeship cost?
$0, from start to finish! Power Design covers all costs for our apprentices, including tuition, coursework, books, tools, and everything in between. Our Apprentices never have to worry about going into debt for their education.
What does the pay structure look like?
All of our apprenticeships are fully paid from day one. Wages depend on location and experience. We believe in pay-for-performance, meaning your hard work and skill development directly impact your earning potential. Unlike traditional apprenticeship programs that offer fixed raises, we reward those who take initiative and grow their expertise.
What curriculum does Power Design use?
Our training program follows industry-leading curriculum from Mike Holt and NCCER.
To provide even more flexibility, we partner with ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors) and IEC (Independent Electrical Contractors) so our apprentices can find the program that works best for them!
Is Power Design part of the union?
No, Power Design is a non-union company.
Being non-union gives you more control over your training, earning potential, and overall growth.
Power Design's pay-for-performance structure means your raises and career growth are based on your skills and hard work, not just time in the program. You also have more flexibility in your training and career path.
Do I need any prior experience?
No prior experience is required to start your apprenticeship at Power Design—we’ll teach you everything you need to know! However, you must have a high school diploma or GED and be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Our program is designed for those who are ready to learn, work hard, and build a lasting career in the trades. If you bring the right attitude and work ethic, we’ll provide the training, mentorship, and opportunities to help you succeed.
Where are the classes held?
Our classes are live and virtual, twice a week. Unlike many other apprenticeship programs that require you to attend classes in person, we understand the value and work-life balance that comes with being able to attend classes virtually.
What type of work do Power Design apprentices do?
Whether you choose an electrical, mechanical, or plumbing apprenticeship at Power Design, you’ll be working on some of the most exciting new construction projects—high-rises, hotels, stadiums, data centers, and more. Unlike residential work that involves fixing old wiring or repairing decades-old plumbing, everything you work on is brand new and built from the ground up.
That means no live wires to worry about in electrical, no used pipes in plumbing, and in mechanical, you’ll be installing cutting-edge HVAC and air-handling systems that are essential to keeping massive buildings running smoothly.
New construction also means you’ll be working outside in the elements, which is perfect for those who prefer hands-on work in an open-air environment rather than being stuck behind a desk. While the job can be physically demanding, it’s also rewarding—you’re part of a team that’s shaping skylines and building the future, one project at a time.
How long is a Power Design apprenticeship?
The program consists of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 567 hours of classroom instruction. This is around 4 years of fully paid, practical experience to set you up with the knowledge you'll need to succeed!
What does a typical day or week look like as a Power Design apprentice?
As an apprentice, you’ll spend your days learning on active job sites, working alongside experienced electricians, and applying classroom lessons in real-world settings. Twice a week, you'll join live virtual classes to build your technical knowledge, making sure you're always growing in both skill and experience.
