    Celebrating Engineering Excellence

Every skyline tells a story of a community redefined—and behind every structure within it, a team of engineers that turns complex ideas into buildable realities.

At Power Design, our Design Division is proud to be part of that impact. Recognized as a 2025 MEP Giant, an EC&M Top 40 Electrical Design Firm, and consistently named a National Top Workplace, our team has earned its reputation for performance at scale. From peer reviews and full-service MEP engineering to lighting design, technology solutions design, and VDC coordination, our expertise is as diverse as the nationwide projects we help bring to life.

For National Engineers Week, we spoke with team members across our division about what sets us apart—starting with our commitment to constructability.

What does constructability mean to you?

    eduardo

Constructability to me is designing a building on a computer with a figurative hard hat on—a project that is designed with the build in mind to maximize efficiency and minimize rework.”

Eduardo Gonzales | Electrical Engineering Manager

That “hard hat mindset” defines our approach. Design decisions are made first and foremost for the field—engineered for the finish line rather than just a permitted set of plans.

How does our engineering team design with installation in mind?

We know that everything we draw affects labor, schedule, and overall job performance, so we focus on making our designs clear, practical, and easy for the field to follow.”

Maria Sapene | Design Manager, LC, CLCP

Clarity in design translates directly to installation efficiency—saving time, reducing rework, and driving stronger schedule certainty from day one.

Beyond constructability, what adds unique value to our partners?

    UPDATED BACKGROUND

We get really close to our clients. We not only connect to the heart and passion behind their project, but we’re also able to translate that vision into something that works within schedule, budget, and construction realities."

Ashley Beeler | Lighting Design Manager, IALD, CLD

Technical expertise matters, but so does genuine partnership. Aligning vision with real-world constraints is where meaningful value is created.

What is a favorite project you have been a part of recently?

One of my favorite projects so far has been Pendry. It’s been great working with different teams and seeing how good coordination leads to good results—from panel coordination with VDC, to circuiting with engineering, to the lighting design that helps us build a well-organized lighting control system.”  Maria Sapene | Design Manager, LC, CLCP

Projects like Pendry showcase what’s possible when we coordinate and collaborate across scopes, working as one unified Design Division from concept all the way through to construction.

To our engineers and designers: thank you for raising the bar and delivering on every promise we make to our partners. You put the hard hat on before anyone else—and it shows in everything we build.
