    Changing Up Charlotte's Skyline

The South End of Charlotte is getting a taste of a whole lot of new — all thanks to our #PDIFamily and long-term partner Greystar.

Welcome to Ascent South End, Charlotte’s soon-to-be newest high-rise residential apartment building. Covering more than 587,437 sq. Ft., and standing 24 floors high with a stunning view of Uptown Charlotte, you can’t miss this masterpiece in the South End.

With any great project comes a challenge, right? That’s just what the teams in Charlotte experienced when dealing with permit delays during the first eight months of the project. After getting as complete as the inspector would allow, as soon as the permit cleared, we opened the floodgates to all teams to have all hands on deck and work together ensuring a seamless delivery for our partners.

Being a multi-trade contractor helps us a lot to be able to manipulate schedules and coordinate with other trades, to keep the project on schedule.

    James Ortiz | Project Superintendent

This design-build masterpiece allows our multi-trade expertise to shine through the electrical and mechanical scopes of the project — these teams work hand in hand throughout the project to ensure timely deliveries and efficiency on the job site. Being the electrical and mechanical trades on the job, our teams are in constant communication with one another — from making installation plans on the roof to going unit by unit, our communication, coordination, and teamwork on and off the job site are top priorities for our teams.

Teamwork doesn’t stop on the job site, it extends to our headquarters, the GRID, and all the way to our prefab and distribution center the LINK, ensuring that if there is ever an issue or conflict, someone is just a phone call away to help you find a solution.

The communication from the field to the office is very open, if I make a phone call, somebody’s on the other end that can help me, or find the answer that I need.

    Robert Harris | Project Superintendent

The communication and coordination kick off before the project even does. When it comes to the design-build process, our engineers are working to carefully curate drawings through the BIM process to create a game plan for our boots on the field to follow. From running more than 200 feet of copper both vertically and horizontally to completely taking apart the DOAS and rebuilding it on the roof, our next-level technology and teamwork are just a few ways Power Design does things differently.

As Power Design continues to rapidly grow, shaping iconic skylines from coast-to-coast, it’s our people that make us who we are, and those people are the reason why Power Design stays ahead of the game both on and off the job site through our of the box thinking and consistently enhancing and bettering our everyday practices.
