Rough & Tough: Tough Rougher Championship 2024

When the going gets tough, the tough gets rougher – the motto of our 2024 Tough Rougher Championship and the teams that battled their way there.

All throughout 2023, teams from each of our nine regions competed against one another in our Tough Rougher Roadshow to see who would be representing their region in the ultimate Tough Rougher Championship — Power Design’s very own competition where the team who roughs a unit the quickest and has the best safety QC score, wins. By being named the champion of their region, they qualified to come to our headquarters for the championship to put their skills to the test in our brand-new, state-of-the-art training and evaluation center, CAMP

While these nine teams battled it out for six hours roughing their units, three of them came out on top, winning a combined $75,000. But it wouldn’t be a friendly Power Design competition without giving back now, would it? Each team chose to represent a charity from their region and while competing for the bragging rights of being called the Tough Rougher Champion, they were also competing for top dollar to go to their charity. The nine teams combined won more than $17,000 for charities of choice.

Meet the top three teams who took home the bragging rights, big checks, and the champion title. Did we also mention their names will be permanently engraved and displayed on our “Tough Rougher Champ Wall?” Let’s hear it for our Tough Roughers!

    1st Place: Florida Two Region

From the beaches of Miami to sunny St. Pete, meet our Florida Two Team: Superintendent Roger Arango, Electrician Randy Garcia, Electrician Jan Garcia, and Apprentice Cristhian Leal, celebrated their grand prize of $50,000 cash, and a $6,000 donation to the Wounded Warrior Project

    2nd Place: West Region

The best from the West, Senior Superintendent Michael Lovren, Electrical Assistant Superintendent, Foreman Wyatt Ybarra, and Electrician Anthony Perez Matias, this team took home $15,000 in cash and donated $3,500 to the American Red Cross

    3rd Place: Mountain Region

Heading to the beach from the Rockies, let’s hear it for third-place finishers from our Mountain region. Superintendent Kevin Arkfeld, Superintendent Forrest Scherman, Electrician Joe Barrand, and Apprentice Donald Skalecke came together to take third place, and walked away with a $10,000 check, and donated $2,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado

I can't thank Mitch enough for this wonderful company he created — we're really proud.

Roger Arango | Florida Two Superintendent

Our teams showed up and showed out for themselves, our #PDIFamily, and their top charity — together as an organization we rallied around them and cheered them on, all to see them celebrate one another in the end.
