Brightening up D.C. at The Burton ðŸ’¡

Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., The Burton — formally known as Washington Gateway  Residential Phase II — is part of a highly anticipated development that’s helping revitalize the ‘NoMa’ community, the neighborhood located north of Massachusetts Avenue. With sweeping views from one of D.C.’s highest points, all 387 modern luxury apartments were brought to life via Power Design’s expertise across multiple scopes. Not only were our teams entrusted with the electrical design build and systems technologies, we took lighting to the next level by designing and providing cutting-edge lighting solutions that would both meet the functional requirements and elevate the ambiance of the project.

While design coordination plays a huge part amongst trades on the job site, our Power Design teams make timely deliveries a priority — ensuring our partners that lighting design is not an afterthought.

"While design coordination plays a huge part amongst trades on the job site, our Power Design teams make timely deliveries a priority — ensuring our partners that lighting design is not an after thought." Power Design's award-winning lighting designers hit the ground running at the 17-story high rise. By collaborating early with the project’s architect and interior designer, they designed a comprehensive lighting vision that seamlessly integrated with other scopes and the overall concept. Their design focused on striking a balance between functionality and aesthetics, while cost efficiency and sustainability were also top of mind — all requiring the in-house collaboration and dedicated assistance of our fixtures team. Known as Power Design Resources (PDR), this team of experts joined forces with our storage and distribution center — the LINK — to optimize budgets and provide timely deliveries by tapping into our national manufacturing partnerships.

It takes a village to build a high rise, but it helps streamline processes when your village is all under one roof; from the engineering and lighting design to sourcing and storing fixtures, Power Design continues to take a holistic and strategic approach to building by delivering faster approvals, procurement, coordination, and installations. Senior Lighting Designer Kelli Shaeffer explained: "The Burton was a great example of how Power Design’s lighting designers — in conjunction with our other teams — are so beneficial for our design build projects. We are a one-stop shop that works as one team who sees the project through to completion."
